He Is King of Everything

Colossians 1:16-17
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

We need to take a step back before we go forward.

We need to look at the big picture.

When we observe a painting, it’s impossible to understand it all from up close. We might notice the brushstroke and certain tiny details, but we miss the most important part: the painting! By focusing on the artist’s technique and tools, we miss out on the artist’s creation.

For the next week, we’ll be talking about Jesus. About His sovereignty, His goodness, His control. But we can miss the big picture when we get so granular about God. So I thought it’d be good to take a moment and remember this simple truth:

Jesus is King. Over everything.

Hebrews 8:1
Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

Every day, in every season, Jesus is still seated on His throne.

It’s easy to say, it’s easy to sing on Sundays. But when we hear that diagnosis, when we have that accident, when our credit card says “insufficient funds”… do we still believe that He’s King?

Wherever you are while you read this, take a moment and thank Jesus that He’s in charge.

Question: When is it easiest for you to believe that God is in control? And when is it hardest?

Challenge: Watch out for hard, scary, or otherwise uncomfortable events that come up today. Challenge your heart to trust Jesus, remembering that He is King of Everything.
